It’s 9 a.m. on a Tuesday and you have all the time to kill with the knowledge that you don’t have to answer to a single person all day. Work emails are muted, chat notifications are turned off, and your pillow is calling for an extra hour of sleep. These are all the classic markers of staycationing — basically, seizing some much needed time away from work, life, whatever without planning and spending on a wanderlusty vacation. And if you’re with me on thinking they’re amazing, you’re 100 percent correct — staycationing is extraordinary. They’re the perfect answer to that much needed recharge. This is, of course, easier said than done. In my staycation moments, I’ve experienced acute anxiety associated when I’m not being productive or helpful. And even worse, I’ve notice that I associate time off as a selfish act; one that I don’t deserve no matter how hard I work. As we all go on our staycation journey together, let’s recognize how we’ve been taught to view relaxation — and let it go in the process. Champion-style staycations are all about doing what you need with the time you have.

And while, yes, you can totally cuddle up with Netflix and explore literally every stand-up special available to you, I’d love for your to consider these staycation tips for how to get away without really getting away. Make yourself breakfast. Like, a real one. Like, one that you could only get at your favorite breakfast spot. Use one of your staycation mornings to live out your eggy dreams by granting permission to be nice to yourself. Not only will you savor every single bite of your meal, this intimate act of being personally compassionate to your basic needs will actively change the way you feel about yourself over time. Mentally placing yourself in a worthy position isn’t always available when we are working or planning a true vacation — there are so many other variables to consider that don’t involve what you need. Give yourself the breakfast of your dreams and know you deserve it.
Recharging is very much connected to exposing your brain to a bit of newness; allowing yourself to find alternative creative outlets.
Spend time in an artistic field that you have always wanted to explore. There are so many opportunities to learn a new skill through online programs, trade courses, local community workshops, and even AirBnB Experiences. Take a whole day and learn something brand new for yourself. Recharging is very much connected to exposing your brain to a bit of newness; allowing yourself to find alternative creative outlets. Staycation gives you the time and energy to pursue that creativity. Hell, what if you find out that ceramic-making is your actual calling? Take yourself on your own, highly exclusive, orgasm roadshow. You heard me. For this staycation, inquire into all the ways to upgrade, change, heighten, expand your masturbation skills and orgasms. The orgasm possibilities are endless when you have free time! Try standing up, kneeling, using multiple toys, watching a new kind of porn, anything that is going to deepen your relationship to your body and your own pleasure. Picture yourself at home in a robe totally blissed out on a post-orgasm high. All hail the staycation queen.

Just because you’re home doesn’t mean you can’t experience a new place! Play a fun game of International Hometown — listen to music, order food, head to a museum, movie, coffee shop that resembles a place you’ve always wanted to explore. For example: Paris. Throw on a beret and walk around a local garden listening to French music until you find a cafe that serves red wine in the afternoon — find some Parisianness without having to leave your town. Solo dining tends to hold an extremely anxious place in our brains. It conjures up loneliness, worthiness, and feeling like ALL the eyes are directly pointed at you the moment you request a table for one. But, I’d love to challenge you to think about solo dining as the ultimate position of power: you’re literally saying to the world that you like yourself enough to sit quietly with your thoughts and enjoy a meal. For one night on your staycation, take yourself out to a lovely dinner. Ask for that solo table, drink a glass of wine, revel in that unobstructed power. Then! Carry that newfound confidence back with you when you head back to your 9-5, 12-6, 11-7, or whatever configuration your work schedule is.

Passion projects tend to be placed on the back back back back burner when we’re forever focused on our daily priorities, deadlines, meetings, etc. And while we. are. not. working. on. staycation (repeat this every moment you feel the need to check your work email), this is a fantastic time to understanding the necessary steps you need to hit your ultimate passion project goal. Give yourself a realistic time limit for being on your computer and make every second of that time count so that you can continue your staycation to the fullest. Adding a little greenery to your place is not only visually appealing, but plants actively made you feel better with their humidity regulating and calming qualities. Breathe a little life into your apartment by embracing your inner plant lady. Take some time to during this staycation to invest in a green sanctuary of your choosing — really get into the wellness-beautification of your space so that it’s a constant visual reminder of your rich recharge.
Establishing yourself as the babe of your own destiny will spark more decision-making confidence in your non-staycation routine.
One of the most enriching experiences you can give yourself is a day trip. While it seems lofty to say you can have a particularly changed experience just by jumping on a bus to a nearby destination, consider that you’re traveling alone, eating alone, permitting yourself to make decisions without considering others. This is not something we typically are able to do — make decisions that don’t affect people around us i.e. work, school, relationships. Establishing yourself as the babe of your own destiny will spark more decision-making confidence in your non-staycation routine. Pack a lunch, bring a charger, and go where the bus line takes you. The last piece of staycation excellence is continuously telling yourself that you absolutely deserve to make that breakfast, take that day trip, eat by yourself, have that masturbation day. Your work, your life, your worries will all be there when you come back, but for now just enjoy the staycation ride. You got this, babes!
